Your panel is the heart of your home
Every circuit in your home starts at the electrical panel. When it's outdated or undersized, it can't safely deliver the power modern homes use. In Geneseo and across the Quad Cities, we still find plenty of 60- and 100-amp panels and even original fuse boxes.
1. Breakers trip often
An occasional trip is normal. Breakers that trip regularly when you run the microwave, space heater or AC are a sign your circuits or panel are overloaded.
2. Flickering or dimming lights
Lights that dim when a big appliance starts can point to an overloaded panel or loose connections — both worth checking.
3. You still have fuses
Fuse boxes did their job for decades, but they weren't designed for today's loads, and some insurers ask about them.
4. Warm, buzzing or rusty panel
Heat, buzzing, a burning smell or corrosion are red flags. Call an electrician right away — and if you see smoke, call 911.
5. You're adding something big
EV chargers, hot tubs, central air, a shop or an addition often require more capacity. A load calculation tells you whether you need a new panel or a 200-amp service upgrade.
