24/7 Emergency Service

Electrician in Henry County, IL

Residential, farm and light commercial electrical service across Henry County from our Geneseo base.

Henry County Overview

Henry County is home for RP Electric. Our shop is in Geneseo, and for more than two decades we have driven the county's highways and gravel roads to wire new homes, upgrade aging services and get the lights back on after storms. Owner Rick Preston has 30 years in the trade and has worked in nearly every corner of the county, from Colona on the Rock River to Woodhull on the southern edge.

The county is a patchwork of small cities, crossroads villages and working farms. Interstate 80 and US-6 cut across the north from Colona through Geneseo, Atkinson and Annawan, while I-74 runs down the western side past Woodhull. Cambridge serves as the county seat, and Kewanee is the largest city. Between them are thousands of acres of corn and soybeans dotted with farmhouses, machine sheds and grain bins — each with its own electrical needs.

That mix means we rarely see the same job twice. One day we might be roughing in a new two-story in a Geneseo subdivision; the next we're running an underground feeder to a pole barn outside Atkinson or replacing a sixty-year-old fuse panel in a Kewanee bungalow. We are set up for all of it, and we answer the phone 24 hours a day.

Common Electrical Issues in Henry County

Older farmhouses and in-town homes

A large share of Henry County housing predates 1970. Many homes still run on 60- or 100-amp service, with fuse boxes, ungrounded two-prong outlets, or wiring that has been added onto by several owners. These systems were never sized for central air, electric dryers, shop equipment and today's kitchens. A load calculation followed by a panel or 200-amp service upgrade is one of the most common projects we do in the county.

Storm-related outages

Open farmland means nothing slows down spring thunderstorms, summer straight-line winds or winter ice. Outages in rural Henry County can last longer than in town, and a dead sump pump or well pump causes real damage. We install standby generators with automatic transfer switches and safe portable generator inlets so families and farms can ride out an outage.

Long rural service runs

Acreages and farmsteads often need power carried a long way: from the meter pole to the house, to a detached garage, to a shop or livestock building. Long runs need correct wire sizing to avoid voltage drop, proper burial depth, and grounding at each building. We plan and install feeders and subpanels that hold up for decades.

New construction growth

Geneseo and the I-80 corridor continue to see new homes and additions. We work with builders and owner-builders on everything from rough-in to final, and we recommend EV-ready and generator-ready wiring while the walls are still open.

Smaller Communities in Henry County

Electrician in Andover, IL

Electrician in Alpha, IL
