Building a new home in Geneseo, Cambridge, Orion or anywhere in the Quad Cities? The electrical system is one of the few parts of a house you can't easily change once the drywall goes up. RP Electric has been wiring homes in Henry and Rock Island counties since 2000, and owner Rick Preston brings 30 years of hands-on experience to every build.
We work directly with homeowners, general contractors and custom builders. That means showing up when the schedule says we will, communicating with the other trades, and passing inspection the first time. From temporary power and service entrance to rough-in, trim-out and final, we handle the whole electrical scope.
New construction is also the cheapest time to plan for the future. We'll help you think through 200-amp or larger service, EV charger circuits in the garage, generator-ready transfer switches, smart lighting, extra outlets where you actually need them, and dedicated circuits for shops, home offices and kitchens.

Decisions to Make Before Rough-In
Bring your floor plan, appliance list and an idea of how each room will be used to the electrical planning conversation. A kitchen island, a home office, a workshop and a garage charger all create different needs. Mark where furniture, televisions and workbenches will go rather than planning outlets only around empty walls. In a Geneseo or Henry County build, this conversation is also the time to identify detached buildings and outdoor equipment that may need power later.
Separate the equipment you are installing now from the features you may add in the future. A pathway for a future circuit can be useful even when buying that equipment is years away. Service size still needs to follow a load calculation; a larger panel label alone does not establish capacity. Ask how the layout accommodates heating and cooling equipment, cooking appliances and any proposed EV charging or backup power without assuming every future addition can share the same circuit.
Before walls close, confirm fixture locations, switch operation and any owner-supplied equipment with your builder. Recessed lights and pendant lights need coordination with framing, insulation and finished ceilings. Keep the agreed electrical layout with your construction documents so changes can be discussed before they affect another trade. At completion, retain the circuit directory and relevant inspection records; they make future maintenance and additions easier to plan.
